Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV)
Welcome to the second week of lent and this week and this week we’re focusing on the peace of God.
We all experience anxiety and stress in our lives, whether it's from our work, relationships, or the daily pressures of life. It can be easy to get overwhelmed and feel like we're in it all alone. But in Philippians 4:6-7, we are reminded that we don't have to face our struggles alone.
Instead we can bring our request to God and receive his peace.
His peace comes not just from his actions, but our reassurance that he will act and look after us. It can also come from a shift in our perspective when we suddenly realise things we worried about don’t matter.
It’s good to note that this passage doesn’t just tell us to bring our requests but also “with thanksgiving”. Sometimes remembering what God has done is all we need to gain his peace that he will act again.
Prayer
Father, thank you for your faithfulness and your never-ending love for us. Thank you that you listen to all our cares and worries. Help me to trust in you and to know that you are always with me, no matter what I face.
Amen.
